about

This is my home recording, a very rough demo of my reflections on Canada's 150th, a hopeful yearning toward an ideal. Today marks 150 years as a nation but really Canada is 15,000 or more. Gratitude for: having been born Canadian, for the opportunities and people I have met , for universal healthcare when I had a colon resection and beat colon cancer 4 years ago I didn't have to worry about paying for anything, for being able to marry the one I love, for the great beauty across the lands and to travel freely, for being able to do what I love, for living in a place and time that is beginning to attempt to right the wrongs of the past and for the willingness of hearts to open. One day I may record it in the studio. May you celebrate love, connection and community.

lyrics

OH CANADA

Oh Canada the land where children dream
Of the oceans, prairies, forest streams
Where voices are seen and heard
The stories of the first ones learned
A healing of the heart
For all who call her home

How we get around
To be perfectly clear
Is that
We’re often saying sorry when we do
Transgress against
We’re not the ones we once thought we were long ago
We see our shadows through the cracks

We’re owning up to the truths we found packed away
Reconciling toward the light
Longing to be peacekeeping cooperants
Protect all earth, air and life

Oh Canada the land where children dream
Of the oceans, prairies, forest streams
Where voices are seen and heard
The stories of the first ones learned
A healing of the heart
For all who call her home

Oh Canada the land where children dream
Of the oceans, prairies, forest streams
Where voices are seen and heard
The stories of the first ones learned
A healing of the heart
For all who call her home

about

Norine Braun Vancouver, British Columbia

Her signature funky folk-blues sound simply cannot be matched. Best listened to as loud as your neighbours will tolerate. Abortmag

Her music sounds like the union of Nick Cave with Patti Smith & City and Colour deep in the Canadian forests.
